Bomb detector dog certification

We will be holding a bomb detector dog certification on Saturday Feb 11, 2012 in Worcester, Ma. Tentative times are as follows:

- Judges meeting 7:30

- Handlers 8:00

- Testing 8:30

If these times change I will let you know. If you are interested in helping out, judging please let me know ASAP.

As a reminder you must pre-register with me via email prior to Jan 11, I'll need your name, dog's name and dept when you pre-register. And be a USPCA member for 2012 prior to the testing date. Send both your membership application, bomb registration forms and checks to Nicole.

April 2012

April 12th, 2012 marks the 25th anniversary of the in the line of duty death of 25 year old Milford Connecticut Police Officer Daniel “Danny” Scott Wasson.  On Sunday April 12th, 1987 Milford Police Officer Daniel Wasson was on patrol with his K-9 partner “General”.  During the early morning hours Officer Wasson radioed dispatch that he was conducting a motor vehicle stop on the Boston Post Road near the Orange Town line.  During the course of the motor vehicle stop Officer Wasson was fatally shot by the vehicle’s operator.  Officer Wasson was found at 02:45 hours lying on the side of the road with a single gunshot wound to the chest from a .44 magnum.  Officer Wasson was pronounced dead at Yale New Haven Hospital shortly after 03:00 hours.

In conjunction with the anniversary the Milford Police Department will be hosting the United States Police Canine Association Region 7 Police Dog 1 field trials on April 13th, 14th, & 15th.

To register go to www.uspca7.org then click on registration.  There are no fees for Region 7 members.  For non Region 7 members the fee is $40.  Registration should be completed prior to April 10TH

A block of rooms have been secured for a reduced rate of $69 a night using the code USPCA at the Fairfield Inn 111 Schoolhouse Rd Milford, CT  203-877-8588.

We have 15 hotels and motels in Milford, however I can only recommend the Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Hyatt Place, & Springhill Suites as alternatives.

For alternate means of transportation for competitors who have family coming to the trial, Wasson field is only approximately 300 yards north of the Milford train station.  Also if coming from Long Island the Port Jefferson Ferry can be taken to Bridgeport and then take the train from there to Milford.

Below are the locations for each event.

The Obedience, Agility, Boxes, & Apprehension fields are located at the Daniel S. Wasson field, 75 West Main St on the corner of West Main St & Constitution Dr. 

The Article field is located at the West River Cemetery, 420 West River St.

The Judges Meeting, Competitors Check In, & Competitors Meeting will be located in the Parsons Government Center, 70 West River St in Meeting Room A / Dressing Room on the second floor.  The building is right next to Wasson field.  The entrance to where the meeting will be held is on the same side of the building as Wasson field and behind the Auditorium.

Citrus, 56 Broad St in the Armory Square parking lot and behind Archie Moore’s.

Stonebridge Restaurant, 50 Daniel St

The Public Demonstration is at Foran High School, 80 Foran Rd

PD 1 Trials

June 22 – 24th, 2012

The registration fee is as follows: $75 prior to 3/22; $85 3/23-4/30; $100 5/1 – 5/22.

Your competitors number will be assigned when I receive your email, I need the following info when you preregister: name, K-9, dept and open or novice class. As a reminder region rules now state that once you receive a PD 1 certification you are no longer in the novice class. Send your completed forms and checks to Nicole Ledoux. Your registration covers you and one guest at the banquet, additional guests are $25ea. If you want to compete I strongly urge you to pre-register with me, and then get your dept permission, as the fees depend on when you register with me (see above). I know the brass can take a long time to make up their minds (if they have them), so I don’t have a problem with you registering and then pulling out. If you are interested in judging please let me know ASAP. More info will follow regarding motel etc.
